Ganz Deutschland liegt unter einer dichten Schneedecke, und für die kommenden Tage sind weitere Schneefälle angekündigt. Was für coole Lieder gibt es zu diesem Thema? Draußen wirbelt der Wind die Flocken um die Häuser, hier sind die sieben besten Songs zum Thema Schnee – mit Gewinnspiel.

Skifahrer und Winter-Romantiker freuen sich; Briefträger, Reisende und Frostbeulen dürften die Schneefront verfluchen, die seit gestern über Deutschland zieht und bis zu 20 cm Neuschnee zurückgelassen hat. (In den nächsten Tagen soll es noch mehr werden.) Im Lauf der Jahre hat dieses Thema viele Künstler beschäftigt, und ich rede hier nicht von Johnny Winter, Snowboy oder Hank Snow. Aus den zahlreichen Songs über Winter, Kälte und Schnee habe ich meine sieben Favoriten ausgewählt, hier sind sie. Mit Gewinnspiel – Details am Ende des Textes.
1. Van Morrison: “Snow In San Anselmo”
Dieser tolle Song stammt von Van Morrisons 1974 erschienenem Album Hard Nose The Highway. Damals lebte Morrison in Kalifornien, wo es selten schneit. In den vergangenen Wochen haben sich Morrison-Fans aus Italien und England den Song zu eigen gemacht, um der Verwunderung über Schneefall in ihren eigenen Gefilden Ausdruck zu verleihen (siehe oben, es gibt noch weitere Youtube-Videos, die derselben Idee folgen). Besonders interessant an “Snow In San Anselmo” ist der Fusionjazz-Mittelteil, bis heute einzigartig in Morrisons Werk.
2. Rosemary Clooney: “Let It Snow, Let it Snow, Let It Snow”
Diesen Standard hat von Frank Sinatra über Bing Crosby bis Dean Martin so ziemlich jeder aufgenommen. Hier singt ihn Rosemary Clooney, Tante des Filmstars George. Wird “Let It Snow, Let It Snow, Let It Snow” das Motto der kommenden Tage? Unsere Wetterpropheten scheinen das zu glauben.
3. Vanilla Ice: “Ice Ice Baby”
Als “Ice Ice Baby” 1990 herauskam, galt Vanilla Ice als Witzfigur; viele Rapper warfen ihm vor, die HipHop-Kultur für den Massenmarkt zu verseichten. Zwanzig Jahre später hat sich die Perspektive auf den Song geändert: Inzwischen respektieren viele “Ice Ice Baby” als irgendwie doch korrekten Old-School-HipHop-Track, und bei Partys erweist sich die Nummer immer noch als Tanzflächen-Feger. Zum Winterwetter hat Vanilla Ice allerdings nichts zu sagen, bis auf die Zeile “Ice ice baby, too cold, too cold”, die relativ präzise ausdrückt, was viele gerade denken.
4. Element Of Crime: “Leise rieselt der Schnee”
Weihnachten ist lange vorbei, aber diese tolle Version von “Leise rieselt der Schnee” darf hier trotzdem nicht fehlen. Faszinierend, wie Element Of Crime aus dem Weihnachtslied eine Bluesnummer machen. Der Track stammt von der Download-EP Am Ende denk ich immer nur an Dich, die im vergangenen Jahr erschien. Bei den Kollegen von der Taz bloggt Sven Regener übrigens über die Tour, auf der sich Element Of Crime gerade befinden. Lesenswert!
5. Regina Spektor: “20 Years Of Snow”
Die New Yorker Avantpop-Pianistin Regina Spektor hat im vergangenen Jahr ziemliches Aufsehen erregt, der Titel “20 Years Of Snow” stammt allerdings von ihrem 2006 erschienenen Album Begin To Hope. Eine Wetterprognose? Ich hoffe nicht!
6. The Chi-Lites: “The Coldest Days OF My Life”
Das Riff, das diese epische Soulballade einleitet, mag deutschen Indie-Fans bekannt vorkommen – Rocko Schamoni hat es für seinen Titel “Der Mond” geklaut. (Scham Rocko? Oh, nie!) Mit seinem unvergleichlichen Falsett hat Eugene Record, Sänger der Chi-Lites, einige der herzerweichendsten Soulsongs aller Zeiten gesungen, doch kaum einer ist so dramatisch inszeniert wie “The Coldest Days Of My Life”. Vergangene Woche starb übrigens Robert “Squirrel” Lester, Gründungsmitglied der Chi-Lites.
7. Miss Piggy: “Baby It’s Cold Outside”
Die beste Version dieses Klassikers stammt von Ray Charles und Betty Carter, die lustigste kommt aus der Muppet Show: Das gemeinsame Dampfbad von Miss Piggy und Rudolf Nurejew gehört ohne Zweifel zu den memorabelsten Muppet-Szenen! Das Thema des Songs ist dieser Tage aktueller denn je: Draußen ist es kalt, und wer kann, bleibt drinnen und lässt sich auch nicht irritieren, wenn plötzlich eine Schweinedame Avancen macht.
Und jetzt seid ihr dran! Welche Lieder gibt es noch, die von Schnee, Eis, Kälte und den Plagen des Winters handeln? Es dürfte nicht schwer sein, hier weiteres Material zu finden! Ich suche also möglichst viele Songs zum Thema “Schnee” und verlose unter allen, die mir weitere Titel nennen, drei Bände der SZ-Diskothek. Pistepirkko – Snowy Dave (fast schläfriges Lied der Finnen)
Galliard – Winter, Spring, Summer (unbekannte sehr stark brassorientierte Gruppe aus den 70-Jahren)
Deep purple – Blind (hier schneit es im Juli “it started to snow in the middle of July, wonder why”, der Winter wird auch öfters erwähnt) auch in “smoke on the water” wird “snow” erwähnt
